“Loyal to local” is more than a trendy phrase—it’s a way of thinking and a way of being. We hope this issue has put into context what local means, why it matters, how it improves our lives and our community and how you can get involved to be part of the movement and impact.

Making a difference is a fundamental need for all of us. We want to know that what we put our energy toward matters—to others, to our health and to the world we live in. Being loyal to local may not feel substantial; but it is, because when individuals decide to collectively engage, big things happen—we create movement.

Being mindful of the food we eat has taken on such importance. We are faced with the sad reality that our children may live shorter lives than we will due to chronic disease, mostly lifestyle-related.

In this new year, consider committing to doing this one thing that will improve your life: be loyal to local.
