Who: Chris Winn
What:Tradesman Brewing Company
Where: Charleston
Beer brewers have always been essential workers—this we know. But what the folks at Tradesman didn’t know was that, just three days after the brewery shipped fresh kegs to their brand new distributor, the state would shutter all bars and restaurants due to Covid-19.
“Plans are awesome until you release them into the wild,” says Chris Winn, co-founder of the venerable Charleston brewery. “You have to be Cirque du Soleil-level flexible, and if you can’t change course quickly, you’re screwed.”
Fortunately, the brewery is home to a huge outdoor patio that was a popular and safe choice for people once they could re-open. And one of their bestsellers once they did? “A stout named ‘Anti-Social Distancing.’ It’s dark and roasty—fitting for the mood at the time,” says Winn.
