While they may not be native to South Carolina, pomegranates are often found around old home sites in the Midlands and Coastal plain. Almost otherworldly, the deep red orbs are filled with tiny, jewel-like seeds called arils that are edible and filled with sweet-tart juice. Rich in antioxidants, they're a healthy and delicious addition to your recipes.
