Tina Singleton
Who: Tina L. Singleton
What: Transformation Table
Where: Charleston
Gathering ’round with a diverse group, sharing food, serving up seconds on personal stories, uncorking new wines and new understandings—that’s the essence of Tina L. Singleton’s Transformation Table, a culinary and cultural experience that’s the absolute antithesis of social distancing.
“A pandemic pivot wasn’t right for Transformation Table,” Singleton says. “Shifting online meant losing all the intimacy, the act of passing plates, of personal interaction, and I didn’t want to water it down. Then George Floyd’s murder just gutted me, and made me take a hard look at how I can make Transformation Table an even more useful tool for community change and healing.”
As the Delta variant remains a threat, future plans are uncertain, but Singleton is more certain than ever about the need to foster difficult and transformative conversations, spiced up with great food.
“It’s a transformational time for Transformation Table,” says Singleton. “So many of us are traumatized and need safe places to process things,” she says.
Whatever the future holds, she’s not giving up. “I’m committed to one thing—connecting people, sharing stories and seeing each other as human beings.”
